NEWS FROM July-September 1921


Africa:

- A Japanese delegation has arrived at Abyssinia and is being lavishly taken care of by the Abyssinian government.  A lot of progress had been made with regards to diplomatic and economic co-operation.  The Japanese have called it a triumph between "Two independent empires".


Americas:

- There has been a mass exodus of people from southern Mexico who're claiming oppression by the Mexican government.  Many have packed up their bags and are simply leaving their lives behind due to horrific stories of entrapment from neighbouring towns.  Reuters have reported that these internal refugees are heading north to the perceived safety of the capital or the USA.  Some are also heading south to Guatemala and Belize.

- Argentina has started a temporary industrial loan programme which has proved popular and seemingly successful.


Asia:

- RSFSR forces have reclaimed much of the extreme far east and been surprised by the lack of White forces in the area.  Locals have indicated that thousands of troops marched towards the sea and had not been seen since.  

- The State of Mongolia has invaded inner Mongolia with assistance from White Russian forces and rapidly taken over large swathes of land in a broad advance.  The few Republic of China troops in the region surrendered almost without fighting, whilst local warlords are defending what they can.  Mongolia has offered peace in return for the inner Mongolian region.  The Republic of China has outright refused this demand, but in reality have no power to reclaim the region.

- Meanwhile, Mongolia has entered a recession due largely to it's punitive tax rates.

- The Japanese government has declared that it is taking Japan down a new road of economic prosperity and will be using these "good times to ensure Japan is equipped for the bad".

- Mahatma Gandhi has led minor protests across India calling for New Delhi to introduce poverty alleviating measures to the poor.


Europe:

- Greece has pursued Turkish troops east of the Sakarya river which has dealt a crucial blow to the Turkish war effort.  Despite these victories, Greek forces are starting to report severe exhaustion amongst front line soldiers after a relentless 9 month advance.

- Fierce fighting is raging across the Ukraine as RSFSR troops continue to fight the Anarchists and Nationalists.  Fighting appears to have intensified as word of mass executions and rapes has spread.  This all comes as the Red Communists have regained full control of Kiev.

- The charismatic Józef Pilsudski has announced that the emergency government will end in Q4 1922 following elections.

- Fighting in Ireland continues to rage on. The IRA briefly held all of Cork before being chased out by a spirited Irish guards regiment - but not without casualties.  British authorities are also struggling to deliver food and medical supplies to the IRA heartland.

- France has agreed to lower the number of troops in the Rhineland and is doing so, but not back to 40,000 men.

- The Blackshirts have claimed responsibility for a co-ordinated attack in the city of Turin against the annual meeting of the Italian Left.  It now appears that the Blackshirts had sympathetic staff at the hotel which enabled them to get past security and detonate several bombs whilst simultaneously storming the building with pistols and grenades.  Some 47 party members are reported dead and a further 137 are seriously injured whilst the party chairman narrowly survived a direct assassination attempt.  The Prime-Minister was also due to be present at the meeting but luckily changed his schedule at the last minute

- General Pyotr Wrangel has declared the establishment of the Free Russia Movement (FRM) whose sole intention is the "European-wide liberation of Russia from Bolshevik forces"

- Economic experts have slashed Swedish growth forecasts to 0.5% as additional taxes have placed uncompetitive burdens on businesses and the wealthy.

- The Polish Złoty reform seems to be an overall success but is angering a number of small and medium businesses who fear the sudden barrage of central regulation.  This comes as Polish unemployment for Q3 has fallen by 0.7%

- The abolition of sales tax in the UK had led to a sharp increase in consumer spending which has meant that projected economic growth has jumped to its highest rate since before the great war.  This comes as the UK has also increased their social programme and allocated significant extra resources to British state schools.  Industrial leaders have however declared their anger a the introduction of an industry tax.


The Middle East

- RSFSR troops occupying northern Persia have come under attack from locals forcing them to flee from several villages along the Caspian.


Oceania:

- A general election is held in Victoria. Harry Lawson of the Nationalist Party is returned as premier, although in a minority government.
