NEWS FROM OCTOBER-DECEMBER 1921


Africa:

- Some 150 Indian nationals have so far registered their sizable families onto a UK backed scheme of migration to East Africa.  The Indian families are hoping for a better life and new markets, whilst British authorities in East Africa are said to welcome the ingenuity that these families will bring to the local economy.


Americas:

- Mexico has introduced a radical re-distributory land reform system which looks set to gradually end the existence of large land owners.

- Leading American and British politicians have expressed their support for the Mexican government against what they see as a clampdown on communist activities.

- Guatemala has been flooded by Mexican refugees, whilst British authorities in Belize have built refugee camps on the border region.  This has now become one of the largest post-war displacement of people according to the League of Nations statistics.

- Argentine President Hipólito Yrigoyen has declared that the world looks at Argentina in awe at their industrial strength.  Argentina has remained the fastest growing economy in South America and one of the fastest in the world.  At the same time opponents have begun to criticise the government for having such a large budget surplus.


Asia:

- Turkmen fighters have faced near annihilation at the hands of RSFSR forces.

- Several Manchurian warlords have declared their allegiance to the Japanese Emperor against what they see as revolutionary hard-liners.

- There have been several demonstrations in Urga against the continuing economic Mongolian recession.

Europe:

- At a Communist Party conference, Trotsky has been given the position of the General Secretary of the party.  Lenin has hit out at his rivals, calling them counter-revolutionary and urged unity in the face of continuing external pressures.

- The British Army appears to be gaining the upper hand in the Anglo-Irish conflict with deaths at their lowest since Q1 1921.  The conflict rages on however as the IRA has continued to gain members and threatened a new wave of violence in the spring.

- Communists and Democratic Socialists across Europe have been called to a conference in Moscow with the purpose of creating a united leftist front in order to bring about a world-wide revolution.

- Germany has announced a "correctional stabilization package" after a big meeting with industry and trade union officials which will strive to increase German competitiveness. The package effectively doubles German sales tax whilst raising interest rates.  In addition, the Reichmark has been pegged against the US Dollar, which is likely to make trade with the United States simpler.

- In equally positive news for Germany, economic growth is starting to pick up as American investors have shown their faith in the stability of it's economic policy.

- The Złoty has now become the official and sole currency of Poland in what is seen as an important step for Polish statehood.

- Cologne Police have begun a major crackdown of RSDAP grassroots members after it was discovered that they were actively encouraging violence.  The Chief of the Cologne police forces has commented that he has found "substantial evidence" of a conspiracy to commit violence against foreigners and Germans alike.  He has threatened to ban all future RSDAP activities in the city unless they change their ways.

- Poland is fast building one of the most modern infrastructure networks in Europe.  Investment into the country is starting to increase but is being held back slightly by the lack of a definitive conclusion to the Polish-Soviet War.

- Sweden has declared it's intention to build design and build advanced aircraft.


The Middle East

- A delegation of Iraqi tribesmen have paid tribute to British forces in Mesopotamia whilst requesting progress over the promised devolution of power to the Kingdom of Iraq.


Oceania:

- Twelve-year-old Alma Tirtschke is raped and murdered in Melbourne, in what has become known as the Gun Alley Murder.
