NEWS FROM APRIL-JUNE 1921


Africa:

- French Forces have defeated the Zain Coalition in Morocco.  Much of its leadership has disappeared, but some have surrendered to the French army.

- Italy has begun attacking rebels in the Cyrenaican desert but have been prevented from advancing too far due to extreme weather conditions and a complete lack of infrastructure.


Americas:

- President Warren G. Harding has appeared to retreat from his previous position of creating an alliance with the United Kingdom which has been enough to calm the nerves of statesmen in Washington D.C but it appears he needs to do more in order to convince the American public to trust him again.

- Anti-Partisan Operations in Mexico have been stepped up and are appearing to be more successful, although the flow information on the conflict is starting to become limited.  

- The Mexican President has personally begun a national fight against disease and illness by starting a major national vaccination programme.

- Mexico has taken a sudden interest in Dinosaurs and is apparently excavating land in the search for their bones.


Asia:

- The Japanese and RSFSR governments have signed a peace deal stipulating that the RSFSR will stay out of Tuva and Mongolia whilst Japan will stay out of the RSFSR and influence the White armies to do so to.  In addition, Vladivostok is leased to Japan for a minimum of 10 years.

- Meanwhile and in an apparent rejection of the peace treaty, forces of the White Russo-Mongolian Alliance have advanced deep into RSFSR territory coming briefly within 10km of Novosibirsk before being promptly chased back further south by a much more numerous and well equipped RSFSR army.  Before doing so, the White armies were able to severely damage the Trans-Siberian Railway in the area and have planted many traps along it which has temporarily frustrated Communist efforts in the region.

- The White-Russo Mongolian Alliance have installed a friendly but free government in Tuva which has declared it is joining the anti-Bolshevik alliance.

- The RSFSR offensive against Bochyarov's forces has continued and been able to advance deeper into the territory.  There have been some brief battles against a surprisingly well equipped White army, but most of the captured areas have been sparsely populated.  There has meanwhile been a flurry of activity in the Sea of Okhotsk.

- A local Chinese warlord has temporarily handed over control of a strip of land to Japan which connects its Chinese infrastructure to Mongolia.

- The Japanese garrison in Harbin came under attack by a gang of China-men which led to the deaths of 7 Japanese soldiers.  No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.  

- Turkmen Rebels have been pushed back into their comfort zone after a confident assault by the RSFSR which has strengthened Communism in the region.

- Several notable RSFSR commanders visiting the Far Eastern Republic have been assassinated as they were travelling from Irkutsk to Khabarovsk.

- France appears to moving units into Indo-China.  The French Ministry of Defence has not so far commented on why this is.


Europe:

- Britain has moved additional troops into Ireland so as to more effectively combat the Irish Republican Army.  The troop surge appears to be delivering limited successes with war casualties decreasing between April and June.

- France has doubled the number of troops in the Rhineland to 80,000 men - a move which has caused fury across Germany.

- The Kronstadt rebellion was brutally put down in April.  Most of the rebels have now been killed or shipped to Siberia which has significantly angered the Democratic Centralists who have openly critiscied Vladimir Lenin.

- Greece has continued to make advances against Turkish forces and have been partially aided by British technical support and aerial assaults from Cyprus.

- The Grand National Assembly of Turkey has vowed to overcome the challenges facing and has called on Turks to fully mobilise against the British betrayal of neutrality.

- British Prime-Minister Lloyd George has held a speech in Birmingham alongside the French President talking of the wonders of public welfare and for the Entente to stick together as allies and Friends against a Germany that should "rightfully" be perceived as bad for the world.  On a related note, the Prime-Minister refused to entertain the demands set by Germany for a re-negotiation of the Versailles treaty.

- The Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army of Ukraine is facing heavy losses in the face of a brutal RSFSR assault against it.  Much of its Russian territory has been lost, but word of the brutality has strengthened the resolve of ethnic Ukrainians in the fight against the communists.  Ukrainian nationalists have formed a temporary alliance with the RIAU in what is being jointly called the patriotic war.

- Anarchist partisans briefly occupied central Beylorussia which temporarily pinned down RSFSR forces in the area.

- President Ebert held a rousing speach in Cologne calling for peaceful and non-violent resistance to the "vindictiveness" of the Entente powers and the Versailles Treaty whilst simultaneously setting up the Reichssekretariat für die Verwaltung der Kriegsentschädigungen with the intention of forming a consensual and reliable settlement for payment of war reparations.  In the speech President Ebert also demanded that any Entente troop movements into the Rhineland should be clearly communicated to the German government or it could otherwise be considered a hostile act.  This all comes as New German political party, the Reich Socialist German Worker's Party or RSDAP, has vowed to violently resist the Entente occupation and deeply critiscised President Ebert.

- The Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale has announced that it is going 'underground' whilst declaring an all out war against the government of Giovanni Giolitti for what it sees as an attempt to turn Italy into a Communist state by allying with Communists and actively attacking the right.  They have claimed responsibility for the bombing of the Milan based regional HQ of the Communist party which killed some 15 people.

- France has Commissioned the battleship 'L'President' and is declaring it to be one of the largest in the world.

- After significantly raising the tax for the higher earners, France has decided to completely reverse this policy and lower tax to 40%

- The French President has visited the United Kingdom on an official state visit.

- Poland is introducing the złoty and it will be mandatory to accept transactions in this new currency alongisde others already used.

- Sweden has raised taxes across the board whilst commissioning a new coastal defence ship, the HMS Drottning Victoria.

- After significantly reducing British debt, the UK government is being blessed by a large budget surplus.  This is leading to calls for major tax cuts by the Liberal and Conservative parties, whilst the Labour party has called for a huge increase in state welfare.


The Middle East

- The Franco-Turkish war appears to be at a standstill with neither side attempting to attack the other.  Regional observers seem to think that a truce may be the likely result.


Oceania:

- Australia assumes responsibility for administration of the Territory of New Guinea, following the end of the League of Nations mandate that replaced the German colonial administration.
