War indemnities (Versailles)

Post  The Engineer on Sat Jan 11, 2014 9:44 pm

This message is directed to the Entente powers.

As you well know, it is a matter of upholding the Versailles Treaty that war indemnities should be paid. Germany will, in order to aid the reconstruction of Europe, and to heal the world, try to follow the spirit of the treaty.

However, too taxing payment rates will serve to undermine our ability to fulfil the treaty, and thereby adventure the prospects for a post-war European recovery.

We will also like to remind everyone that Europe today is in a precarious situation. Many new and young nations have been established, and there are new kinds of emergent threats approaching us in the future.

The new government of Germany remains committed to peace, stability and an opportunity for all people in Europe to bury what has happened and rise together in dignity. While we know that this is hard to swallow, we remain committed to show the world that we wish to become partners in a wider European context, rather than a defeated enemy.

We wish to re-negotiate the payment rate terms.

OOC: I strongly encourage more of this public diplomacy. It does add an extra layer to the game.

The Kingdom of Italy is willing to renegotiate German reparations if it leads to the greater political stability in Europe and the defeat of extremism.

Germany would be delighted to re-frame this within a conference which could be taking place later this year. It is curious to see whether the winters south of the Alps are that mild.
