I've raised this with the GM before, but in light of this turn it's worth posting publicly.

If major NPC events happen in your neighbourhood which your state would respond to, it should be a part of the game to allow players to respond. If nothing else, it'd save the GM time re-processing wars in which player armies stood frozen in time for months.

I agree, my nation has been invaded by land thieving vermin of which i recieved no forewarning. Had I known, I would have sealed my borders.

If possible that would be great. How would you see this work out in practice?

That depends of the swiftness of it. When it comes to TBO's complaint, it is a natural process during the transition from the Primordial to the Archaic.

Well, if something is happening the player might respond to, the GM should shoot them a PM with a response opportunity.

I can think of two recent examples:

- The balance of power between two of my defeated rivals was shattered as one annexed most of the other. This "over too quickly to intervene" war involved: marshalling an army and marching it at least 100km; besieging a city; that city-state pulling together a force of reserves; lifting the siege; pursuing the enemy army; bringing the first city to surrender terms. In that time my forces, which were garrisoned very close to the city under attack, had no opportunity to respond, and nor did my diplomats.

- A coalition of NPCs marshalled large armies and ganked one of my allies, having completed manoeuvres, deployment, a large battle, and an occupation before I even had the opportunity to bring my army together.

Whilst in the latter example the Engineer can just about pull the "this involved lots of planning" card, the first example is ridiculous. I border both the participants.

In the first example, a lot of your forces were presumably tied in the west, due to the Rahol rebellion.

I had 1,000 units in the west facing the Rahol rebellion, and all the rest nearby. My forces had been withdrawn from the west to fight the Oathbreaker coalition in the first place.
